I have a confession to make.

This smoothie was inspired by one of my favorite food combinations growing up…strawberry ice cream and peanut butter topping. You might think this is weird. At least, all of my friends did when we went to Friendly’s for ice cream. I used to love that place. There was one in our local shopping mall that we went to every Friday night. The waitress even memorized our orders. All we had to say was “the usual.”Β  Sixteen-year-olds with a usual. Gotta love it. ♥

Anyway, getting back to peculiar food combinations, you may have read about my fascination with ketchup and pickles, which I still say is not weird because people eat burgers with pickles and ketchup, and hence thy’re eating pickles and ketchup! So, I’m going to prove that strawberry ice cream and peanut butter topping is not a strange food combination. Think about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. A perfectly acceptable combination…peanut butter and jelly. Now, what if that jelly happens to be of the strawberry variety? Mmmhmm! See, it’s totally normal!


Another delicious and popular peanut butter pairing is peanut butter and bananas. This combo makes for one awesome sandwich! And of course, strawberry and banana has been a “thing” for like a zillion years.

With this Strawberry-Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie you can have all these combinations in one! Strawberry and banana, peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and banana…yes, yes, yes! Or maybe, you can think of it as a banana split with strawberry ice cream and peanut butter topping. Now,Β that’s what I’m talking about!

But enough about that, this smoothie is also amazing because…

  • it has NO ADDED SUGAR (because bananas and strawberries are sweet enough πŸ˜‰ )
  • it’s GLUTEN-FREE
  • it’s DAIRY-FREE
  • oh, heck, it’s not just dairy-free, it’s VEGAN
  • there are only 4 ingredients, all of which contain loads of vitamins and minerals
  • it’s like a good-for-you milkshake! Seriously, it tastes just like a strawberry milkshake that’s been infused with creamy, glorious peanut butter, which adds a good dose of protein to the mix.

This vegan, no sugar added Strawberry-Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie is a nutritious and delicious way to start your day!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 medium frozen banana, peeled and sliced prior to freezing
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 heaping tablespoons creamy, no sugar added peanut butter

Instructions

Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender.

Blend on high until smooth.

Notes

This recipes makes one 16-ounce serving or two 8-ounce servings. I used 365 brand creamy, no sugar added peanut butter.
